Ashfield Pianos is owned and operated by Gavin M Crooks BMUS MPTA
"I founded Ashfield Pianos after completing a course on piano tuning and restoration at Newark College back in 2010. Before studying piano technology, I had always been inspired by the piano. I started learning to play at a young age, and passed a Bachelor of Music degree at Hull University.
"After I set up Ashfield Pianos, I also joined forces with legendary piano restorer Phil Taylor, where I became Junior Director of Crown Pianos Ltd. I spent the next ten years building up my expertise, providing a tuning and restoration service for the Nottinghamshire area. During that time, I provided a tuning service for several key venues, most importantly the Nottingham Concert Hall and Theatre Royal Nottingham. I've now tuned for the likes of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Halle Orchestra, Symphonia Viva, and several celebrities including Stephen Hough and Jools Holland.
"The last ten years have been a whirlwind. I've worked on pianos for customers in London, Birmingham and Loughborough; I've passed the Pianoforte Tuners Association's test and become a member of the organisation; I've even been as far as Sierra Leone - as part of a charitable mission arranged by the British Council - to repair and service the pianos after the country recovered from the terrible Ebola crisis some years ago.
"Recently, I was approached to become the head technician for the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, in conjunction with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. I am looking forward to this latest exciting challenge to my piano tuning adventure!"
